A few categories should probably be added to this article. The following categories (or maybe others) would be appropriate:

  • Category:American computer scientists
  • Category:Number theorists
  • Category:Combinatorists

Sources affiliated with the subject?

[edit]

Why was this template added: "This article relies on references to primary sources or sources affiliated with the subject"? I don't think the template (added here) is appropriate. Which of the sources is affiliated with the subject? Justin W Smith talk/stalk 15:38, 22 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, if you look at the reference list, almost every one is co-authored by one George B. Purdy. Because of this, the sources are affiliated with the subject and do not meet Wikipedia's standards for reliability.

OK. Of course... I see what you're saying. References 4, 5, and 6 are to validate the claim that "He coauthored a number of papers with Paul Erdős". (There's surely a way to reference a statement like this w/o violating the "no primary sources" rule.) Reference 2 should probably be removed, since it's backed up by Reference #3. I would make the changes myself, but I have a conflict of interest. Justin W Smith talk/stalk 04:55, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I removed the "primary" sources. I left the "primary sources" banner in place for someone else to remove. Justin W Smith talk/stalk 05:04, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
